"Looks like her girlie parts need a gynecologist..." A paraphrased remark from two onlookers who visually reviewed Bedside Brooke's full frontal image. While this review will cover the topless-only frontal version, the above comment will carry greater merit further down in this review.
Make no mistake, from a technical, illustrative point of view, this piece is artistically very good. It has smooth, tapering linework that solidly grounds the character, a color scheme that flows nicely upon the character's skin and background, gentle shading, and thematically conveys the theme of a laboratory or medical setting.
The contrast between the cold, bluish sterility of the setting and Brooke's own warm hues makes for a great contrast. So much so that even her red-hued accessories, panties and medical symbol, don't stick out too much, but instead merge nicely.
As a panel in a mainstream comic book, this rendering is top notch.
One could understand how fans and supporters of the artform would find this piece to be a 5-star creation. And within that scope, it is.
Unfortunately, this is not a comic con's artists' alley booth illustration. Instead, it is linked to a precious commodity, silver in this case, and presented as a high-grade artistic bar. That is where the issues come in because it precisely is a high grade image that makes several missteps.
The linework is too abundant and invades the fore-figure in extensive fashion. Color contrast, body shaping, and shading should delineate body regions instead of thick or pronounced lines. The face is beautiful, but could have used greater detailing to bring out more of Brooke's calm and confident elegance.
Not visible here is the reference to her sexuality. Remember, the main selling point of these bars is exactly...
Sex, be it implied, its appeal, fantasy or overall, undeniable presence.
With such heavy line work into Brooke's crotch, over-shading and excessive use of red that makes her labia blare like a siren, it does look...unnatural. Even her nipples seem to dissolve into the breasts, reducing her sensuality some, while her face, set with a calm, gorgeous expression, lacks the detailing that we've seen in other creations.
As such, the gynecologist comment made by others does have merit when seen from this perspective.
When compared to other similar bars, such as Dakota Dusk (Flash Pack 8) or Cara Cupid (Stand Alone Valentine's Edition), Brooke does fall short in numerous categories. The other mentioned bars use many of the same techniques, however, rely more on color, shading and detailing to create illustrations of a higher tier.
Cara and Dakota look like the themes they are meant to represent, while Brooke, strangely enough, seems to be in the medical arena but somehow not really a part of it.
It is a rather sad point because, once again, as a comic-style illustration, this is really good but not necessarily the level expected of a high-priced commodity art bar.
An on that note, another key point, and a substantial one, is pricing.
When compared at the intersection with silver prices, this series may have begun stepping into the realm of how much is an illustration worth when compared to the silver price?
Historically, silver 1 oz troy was roughly 85 US dollars, while the Bedside Brooke was sold initially at 181 US dollars around early February of 2026. Even taking into account overhead, production and other fees, this still puts the value of the illustration at or above the price of silver itself.
Each buyer obviously weighs that very same point when they buy an art bar, and so, this view isn't a new concept. However, as prices in silver are holding yet serialized art bar prices keep going up.....
One must consider if the illustrations are really that good to warrant that much of premium cost?
For that, I will allow each consumer's tastes, personal views, and wallet, make that determination. The star ranking above showcases my own view on the matter.
So, decide if you want Brooke to check your cut or not...
One of my favorites so far!!
Amazing product!
